Dealing with the Magitek mechs was probably more of a nuisance than a problem for Noctis. On the one hand, salvaging pieces of the exploded and collapsed armors would give plenty of good stuff for trade and upgrading one's weapons or transportation or whatever have you. Though there's something strange about the third magitek armor/mech - it's slumped over from where it was defeated, smoking from the wreckage, but there's also a splash of green and red from within its body that was missing from the other two that may have been salvaged. How weird, it -almost- looked like a body!
The others had gone ahead without him. They had poked through what was left of their latest battle en route to his bride-to-be and it had seemed to be a sufficient salvaging of weapons. But.
Something keeps Noctis from following his three friends back to their camping grounds, by the Regalia. Is that β green? Red? That's pretty unusual for the Empire. Frowning, he crouches down to push a piece of metal off to reveal β
It looked like said young woman had gotten briefly knocked out when the mecha collapsed - she didn't move at first, as she was partly slumped in the seat. Though his eyes hadn't failed him - the flash of green was the color of her hair, and the red was the cape draped over her. Well, red and pink since she wore both colors. The light briefly played off of the metal circlet she was wearing.
One also may notice the sword resting beside her. The sound of the metal being pushed aside, on the other hand, was loud enough that she grimaced slightly and her eyes half open. Blinking slowly, she glanced around in confusion of her surroundings, until she caught sight of Noctis and froze, blue eyes widening slightly. Her instinct was to move away from the unfamiliar figure, rather than grab the sword and attack him. Well - move as away as much as possible, she can't really do much more than fidget and leean away in her current position.
Her attire is markedly different from that of which he has seen on the other Imperials he has fought with over time. Though he knows better than to let his guard down, he still finds himself ( perhaps stupidly ) curious about the girl and something in him says to linger there. He can defend herself if this is a ruse and she wishes to attack him, after all.
"Hey," Noctis starts hesitantly with her brow wrinkled, hair still hanging in his face as he leans over her. There is tension in his hands, fingers flexing as if prepping to summon a weapon if needed. "Hey, you okay?"
Again she glanced around, a bit warily, before fixing her gaze on his face again. "I..." She started to speak, then shrank back as much as she could. If she were capable of it she'd probably go -through- the seats. "I don't..." She winced slightly, refocused on him nervously. "Who are you...?"
The way she was looking at him, she probably thought he was the dangerous one here. And in a way she'd be right, too. Though the pain in her head when she tried to think what she had been doing, where she was - anything - only steadily increased until she gave up trying.
"The name's Noct." The alias has become easier to offer people these days. That is when he shifts awkwardly, leaning forward still though this time he holds a hand out to her instead, the other still at his side to brace himself for any oncoming danger. The girl did just come out of an Imperial mecha, though she still seemed rather β out of place.
Maybe he is just hoping it was something like that.
That position he had been in probably wasn't very comfortable for him. She noted the name, though she at first stared at his hand like it was going to bite her. At least at first. She was hesitant, but frankly, someone helping her up out of a thing like this was preferable to staying put. She glanced over to the sword beside her for a second, but rather than reach for it, she took Noct's hand.
"Me? I.. I'm.." Name, name.. she knew she had one but it was so hard to remember. She grimaced slightly, determined to at least grasp something -- something with a T, "Terra." She said finally, a little relieved to have that much. No, more than a little, because it was distressing when she realized that it was the only piece of information she could even recall. "I'm Terra."
Well, that kind of β weird, that hesitation. Not that he can talk, considering that he's giving people a false name derivative of his actual name which is hardly a disguise in and of itself.
But then again, she had just come to after being nearly obliterated by himself and his comrades.
Noctis slowly helps her to her feet, wondering what the hell his instincts are doing, putting him in the face of danger like this. He is tense all over, even as he tries to support the girl from the mech. Terra. That's right. "Can you stand, Terra?"
She was a little unsteady at first, glancing around as if she were trying to get her bearings. Instinctive really because she didn't recognize anything anyway. It was strange the way Noct was helping her, but he was so tense at the same time. "Um... yes, I think so." She didn't feel physically injured at all at least. But at least she wouldn't need to lean on Noct so once she was on stable ground - maybe that's what he was so worried about. Also what the heck was that thing she had been sitting in in the first place? She had -so- many questions.
There was a small outpost nearby with parking for caravans and other vehicles. Ignis had rented one out for a few nights while they had another stopover. With the wreckage a ways away, they didn't have to walk very far to get help for the fallen soldier. She was a soldier, wasn't she? The way she was dressed was so different from the others he had seen.
He's about as eloquent as she is. Once she's standing on her own power though, she glances around with a small, uneasy frown, looking for something familiar. Finally she turned around to peer at the destroyed magitek armor for a long moment, and then she glanced at Noctis while he was debating their next step.
"Noct...? Can I ask you a question?" Terra ventured with a little more strength to her voice. Though she points at the vehicle she was just helped out of, "... what is that..?" No, not just what is it, why the hell was she IN it in the first place?
He sounded dumb. He felt like he sounded dumb anyway, completely idiotic. This trip has pushed him far out of his element but this might just take the cake. His instincts couldn't be wrong, not when she looked so helpless and βΒ confused?
"Magitek," he explained, sounding unsure of himself. "You βΒ Weren't you just firing at me?"
He might think he sounded dumb, but she felt dumb herself. She was in the machine, she should know what it was, and why she was in it, but... nothing. It was actually a little frightening, to not know -anything- but your own name. No, that wasn't entirely true. She could feel magic in her, and she remembered seeing a sword beside her in the machine, so she felt she could at least fight.
... that...doesn't make her feel better though.
"Magitek?" ...that doesn't ring a bell either. Though her confusion traded itself for distress at the question, "I- I was?" And yet he was helping her out of it. "I'm sorry..." A slight shake of her head, "I don't remember.. anything." She was a (former) member of the Empire though, she COULD be lying, or a very good actress right? ... though nothing seemed feigned.
This doesn't seem like an Imperial tactic. Maybe Noctis is too naive, too young, a touch too trusting, but he doesn't believe that the Empire would plant a young woman here to feign injury and memory loss to get at him. She doesn't even seem to know who he is, much to his relief.
"Weird."
Noctis. That isn't helpful.
"Sorry," he murmurs apologetically, rubbing the back of his neck. "You shouldn't be sorry, I just β I'm trying to figure out what we should do. D'you have any injuries? Anything hurt?"
Weird.. it definitely was. "..." It was also extremely unhelpful, but she was as much at a loss as he was. Though she wasn't sure what she could do to help him figure out what to do next. "Um... I saw a weapon on the seat in that machine.. the Magitek. Should I get it?" Wlll she need it? She'd feel a teensy bit better with it, if only because it was something ..kind of familiar.
"No, I think I'm ..ah.." she winced suddenly, putting a hand to her head, "Just my head.."
